Purpose

The purpose of this department is to expose teacher trainees to the pedagogy of teaching.

 

Objectives

Teaching Practice Department has the following objectives:-

1. Ensure teacher trainees are taught and examined on teaching methodology.

2. Produce excellent teachers after training. These should be able to deliver content to learners.

3. Provide the society with teachers who are good role models.

 

Departmental Activities

This being a teacher training college, TP department is actively involved in carrying out the following activities:-

1. Organize Micro-teaching sessions.

2. Organize and coordinate internal teaching practice assessments.

3. Mapping of schools

4. Posting 3rd year students to schools for teaching practice

5. Organize and coordinate external teaching practice assessment (MOE  personnel)

6. Compiling TP marks for onward transmission to KNEC

 

The First Teaching Practice

This was done from May to August 2018.  There were 114 candidates in the field.

 

Internal and external assessment was done and the results were quite satisfactory with a deviation of +2.

 

We partnered with schools in Kakamega County, Bungoma County and Uasin Gishu County.  The Teaching Practice students were received well and supported which enabled them to do well in Teaching Practice.  The entire Lugari Diploma T.T.C. Community has been very supportive to the Teaching Practice Department.

 

Because of team work, we have registered good results and look forward to working together again to achieve our set objectives.
