ENGLISH
English is the subject of instruction in all the subjects taught in the
College except for Kiswahili subject. It therefore plays a vital role in the
overall performance of the DTE and College mean score as a whole.
The subject is examined in three papers. Paper 1 tests the creative writing
skills of the learners, functional skills, reading comprehension skills and
grammatical skills. The 3nd paper examines the learners’ mastery and
recall of the set books through essay writing. The set texts include novels,
plays and short stories. Oral literature aspects and poetry are also
tested in this paper. The last paper (Paper 3) majorly deals with the
methodology aspect. This is where knowledge on how to deliver the
content taught is tested.
Since teacher training aims at producing teachers with sufficient knowledge
and skill in teaching, the teaching of this subject ensures that this objective
is met though its teaching methods. These include lecture method, group
discussion and presentations, field research activities, practical methods
such role play, dramatization and demonstrations among others.
The teaching workload in the subject is distributed in such a way that each member touches on a section of all the three papers examined. These include areas such as phonetics and phonily, writing, grammar, oral skills, essays and preparations for teaching practice.
The subject also contributes to the running of some co-curricular activities such as talent shows, debating, public speaking, comedies, journalism, and drama and music club. This aims at ensuring that the College produces all round teacher trainees who would use these skills and talents to build their students.
KISWAHILI
Wakurufunzi wanaoandaliwa na idara hii wananuiwa kuwa wakufunzi
wa shule za upili. Maandalizi yao yanazingatia silabasi iliyoidhinishwa
na taasisi ya kuandaaa mitaala nchini (KICD). Tuna matumaini ya kupeleka
walimu bora wa lugha nyanjani
Mtihani wa mwisho kwa kiwango hiki hufanyika katika sehemu tatu.
Kuna karatasi ya kwanza, ya pili na ya tatu. Karatasi ya kwanza inajumulisha
insha, isimu na historia ya Kiswahili. Karatasi ya pili inahusu fasihi kwa
ujumla ilhali karatasi ya tatu inahusu mbinu na taratibu za kufundisha. Kila sehemu
ina jumla ya alama mia moja, ambapo hatimaye itawekwa juu ya asilimia mia moja.
Mbinu zinazotumiwa kufundisha ni pamoja na mihadhara, majadiliano, kazi mradi na mtindo wa makundi.kuhusu fasihi, tunawashauri wakurufunzi kusoma vitabu vilivyoidhinishwa na hatimaye majadiliano darasani yakiongozwa na mhadhiri husika.
Changamoto hazikosi kutokea. Wakati huu, wahadhiri wa Kiswahili ni watatu. Tunatumai kupata mhadhiri mwingine kabla ya mwaka ujao wa masomo.
Idadi ya wakufunzi wa darasa la Kiswahili si wachache. Inabidi tutumie mtindo wa kutoa mhadhara kwa wingi. Kwa hivyo utahini na usahihishaji yaweza kuwa changamoto. Wakati huu wahadhiri hawa ni Bwa Apwoka, Dkt Florence Muteheli and Bi. Agnes Mungai.
Mapendekezo
Ni vigumu kukadiria iwapo wanafunzi wote wana vitabu vya kiada, hasa fasihi na kwa hivyo kama idara tunapendekeza kununuliwe vitabu na Makala Zaidi katika maktaba ya chuo. Pia kuweko kwa wavuti kutasaidia wahadhiri na wanafunzi katika shughuli za utafiti kujiimarisha katika uwanja wa lugha.
Lugha ya Kiswahili ni lugha ya taifa na vilevile lugha rasmi. Ni vyema upewe kipaumbele na kil mshikadau ili kuiendeleza Zaidi. Era ya lugha ya chuo yafaa kudhuhirisha swala hili muhimu ili ijumaa itengwe kwa matumizi kwenye gwaride na shughuli nyingine muhimu siku ya ijumaa yote.
Pia itakuwa bora kama wakurufunzi watatembelea sehemu ya pwani na hasa Mombasa, ikiwa kitovu cha lugha ya Kiswahili itakuwa mahali pema pa wakufunzi wa Kiswahili kutalii ili kutafiti mengi kuhusu ukuaji wa lugha ya Kiswahili.
Tunatumai mapendekezo haya yakitiliwa maanani, kila mshikadau ataienzi na kuipelka mbele Zaidi, kwani umoja ni nguvu na utengano ni udhaifu.
